Golden Rules

  1. All Administrator and Moderator decisions must be respected. If you take issue with a decision, you must do so privately with the moderator or administrator who issued the decision. Complaining about moderator decisions in public or otherwise disrespecting moderators will not be taken lightly.
  2. Access to this web site is a privilege, not a right, and it can be taken away from you for any reason.
  3. Avatars must be safe for work, be entirely inoffensive, and cannot contain any nudity, religious imagery and logos related to racism or hate. If you are ok to show your mother your avatar, it is safe to use. Use common sense.
  4. This is a forum which promotes sharing amongst the community. If you are not willing to give back to the community what you take from it, this site is not for you. In other words, we expect you to share your knowledge and help other members.
  5. Trading, selling, sharing, or giving away your account is strictly prohibited. If you no longer want your account, send an Administrator requesting that it be disabled.
  6. We take spamming seriously. We hate it. Be careful when sharing an IP address or a computer with a friend if they have (or have had) an account. From then on, your accounts will be permanently linked, and if one of you violates the rules, both accounts will be disabled along with any other accounts linked by IP address. This rule applies to logging into the site.
  7. Attempting to find or exploit a bug in the site code is the worst possible offense you can commit. We have automatic systems in place for monitoring these activities.
  8. We're a community. Working together is what makes this place what it is. New posts and threads are made daily, the Moderators aren't psychic. If you come across something that violates a rule, report it, and help us better organize the site for you.

Forum Rules

  1. Ensure post titles and post content are free from errors especially spelling errors. Use the edit button to fix errors or report the error so a Moderator can fix it. You will not be penalised for reporting your own posts. [warning, ban]
  2. Use descriptive and specific subject lines. This helps others decide whether your particular words of wisdom relate to a topic they care about. [warning]
  3. Do not post comments that don't add anything to the discussion. When you're just cruising through a thread in a leisurely manner, it's not too annoying to read through a lot of “hear, hear’s and "I agree’s”. But if you're actually trying to find information, it's a pain in the ass. So save those one-word responses for threads that have degenerated to the point where none but true aficionados are following them any more. Or short: NO spamming. [warning]
  4. Read the entire thread, understand it, then contribute. Do not just reply the first post. [warning, restricted posting capabilities]
  5. We are a tech community, not a rumour spreading community. Only post latest and accurate topics. Do not spread lies and unnecessary fear. [warning, restricted posting capabilities, ban]
  6. Many forums have their own set of rules. Make sure you read and take note of these rules before you attempt to post in one of these forums. [warning]
  7. DON’T USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, excessive !!! (exclamation marks) or ??? (question marks). It seems like you're shouting or just being silly. [warning]
  8. No lame referral schemes. This includes freeipods.com, freepsps.com, or any other similar scheme in which the poster gets personal gain from users clicking a link. [warning, ban]
  9. No asking for money for any reason whatsoever. We don't know or care about your friend who lost everything, or dying relative who wants to enjoy their last few moments alive by being given lots of money. [warning, ban]
  10. Do not inappropriately advertise other websites. Blatant attempts to advertise websites may result in a warning or the loss of forum privileges. We cannot emphasise this enough, we hate spammers. [warning, ban]
  11. No flaming; be pleasant and polite. Don't use offensive language, and don't be confrontational for the sake of confrontation. [warning]
  12. Don't point out or attack other members' reputation or post count. A higher reputation or post count does not make you better than someone else. [warning, deduction in reputation points]
  13. Use the search function. By using the search function you could find the answer yourself quicker with a little research. If you do the basic research suggested (i.e., read the rules/wiki) or search the forums and don't find the answer to your question, then go ahead and ask. [warning]
  14. Be sure you read all the sticky threads in a forum before you post. [warning]
  15. Refrain from quoting excessively. When quoting someone, use only the portion of the quote that is absolutely necessary. This includes quoting pictures. [warning]
  16. When asking for support, you are responsible for choosing the best answer if available.
  17. No political or religious discussions. These types of discussions lead to arguments and flaming users, something that will not be tolerated. The only exception to this rule is when we create a special forum for this, which will exists solely for the purpose of intellectual discussion and civilized debate.
  18. Don't waste other people's bandwidth by posting images of a large file size.
  19. Be patient with newcomers. Once you have become an expert, it is easy to forget that you started out as a newbie too.
  20. No language other than English is permitted in the forums. If we can't understand it, we can't moderate it. [warning, ban]
  21. Do not post mature content on the forums. This is a forum related to technology. Not a porn site. [warning, ban]
  22. Necroposting - do not revive threads when the last post is more than 60 days ago. Only exception to this rule is if you have something new and informative to add to the thread. [warning]
