Numbers don’t lie. iPhone clearly dominates the smartphone market globally per OEM. In the United States alone as of January 2015, Apple had a staggering market share of 41.9%. They were able to sell 74.5 million units. They were followed by Samsung at 29.3%. LG, Motorola, and HTC shared the rest of the remaining percentage. This is according to the report of www.comscore.com.
The first thing that makes the customer want an iPhone is because of its astonishing User Interface. Animations are amazing too. To add, it’s the most responsive smartphone device I have ever used. It has been that way primarily because they are the ones who made the hardware and the operating system that it uses. I am personally waiting for this kind of company that would emerge and probably beat Apple. If not, just compete with the present operating systems out there. Tizen is out there, but still on its early stages and they don’t have their own mobile phone to use it.
iPhone is at its prime right now, but I think they still have a room to improve. Most especially in their iOS updates. A problem will be solved and another one opens. Generally, every smartphone has to improve. It has to be competitive enough to battle other manufacturers. Innovation.
Apple may be thinking differently as of the moment as what they have done for the last couple of years, but if I were to ask what features the next would iPhone would have I would have say the following:
Larger Memory Allocation for Storage
Let’s focus on a 16 GB iPhone. I understand that this kind of memory storage is not really 16 GB. Just like a 4 GB flash drive that has a 3.75 GB available only. They just round it off basically for marketing purposes. In iPhone’s case, Widows Explorer detects that iPhone has a 14.7 GB of memory, however iTunes detects 12.03 GB. As what I understand, 2.67 GB is for the Operating System. It has to do with both the hardware and software. Some 16 GB flash drive has 15.3 GB available for usage and some has 14.7 GB as well. So I suggest move it closer to 16 GB. For their iOS, a smaller size would be great. Just imagine if they could release a 2 GB version of iOS, I can save up to 340 photos more. That could be equal to 80 more songs.
16 Mega Pixel Camera
Apple have been really great in introducing new iSight camera features and I think it’s time for them to increase the number of pixels of their photo. Combined with their current specifications, a 16 MP camera would be stunning. A lot of iPhone users have been waiting for it. Maybe now is the time.
No Protruding Camera
Everyone was blown away during the unveiling of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, until they realize that the camera at the back protrudes. I don’t know what Apple had thought about that, but I would trade a protruding camera for a bigger battery size. It looks odd and it was the first iPhone to do that. It won’t lay flat on the table anymore. Although the sapphire glass is quiet sturdy, I would still use a casing to flatten the back surface just to be safe.
Increase Display Size
A lot of rumours have stipulated over the internet about increasing the iPhone’s screen to its sides. Just like what they’ve done on the MacBook Air and MacBook. I would expect it too to maximize its screen.
The future is wireless, apple said. In addition to their latest Mac line-up, the new MacBook offers only a single port USB-C as they envision connecting all your devices to the Mac wirelessly. They have AirPlay for your Mac to HDTV connection, AirDrop for exchanging photos, Bluetooth to connect headsets, and continuity to pick-up things you’ve been doing from your iPhone to your Mac or vice versa. It is mainly used for charging. It’s a nifty idea, because wired is always faster. If it could charge the iPhone with 2 hours tops, then I’ll agree to that.
Next and Previous Button for EarPods
EarPods is a beautiful piece of hardware for headsets. It’s convenient for I don’t have to get my iPhone on my pocket to answer a call. With its unique and small design, it has an astounding sound quality. One thing is missing though, the next and previous button. It’s not convenient to get my iPhone just to click the next button if I don’t like the song that is playing. That new functionality would really be appreciated.
These features are the ones that are not too mainstream. Most of them would always suggest a faster CPU (Quad Core) and a bigger RAM (2 to 3 GB) and I’m pretty sure that Apple is considering this, but they are definitely making adjustments on the Operating System to save battery at faster processing speed. I’m sure they have been weighing their options since then.
