Android is the most widely used mobile operating system worldwide, the operating system is based on Linux and it’s developed by the Tech giant Google. The major advantage of the Android operating system over the competition is that it’s a huge collection of applications that allows the user to nearly do anything from online shopping to controlling drones and more importantly most of these applications are free.
This article will present a step by step guide on how to have access to your personal computer from anywhere using your android phone. Well, you might be wondering why you would need such a feature; well you might use it to have access to your parents computer for some troubleshooting, or you might use it to watch videos and listening to music stored on your computer, you might also use it to have access to other files on your home/work computer, of course there are many other applications that you can use this trick in, but I shall leave it for your ambitious mind to think of.
Step 1: Open an empty tab on Google Chrome and click on the App tab shown in the following photo.
Step 2: Click on the web store at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: You’ll be directed to the Google Chrome store, type “Chrome Remote Desktop” in the search bar.
Step 4: Choose the first “Chrome Remote Desktop” that appears and click on the free blue tab at the right corner of the screen.
Step 5: You’d be prompt by a window, click on the ‘Add” tab at the bottom of it.
Step 6: A Chrome remote desktop icon will appear in your Chrome apps page, just click on it and a window will pop-up click on the continue tab.
Step 7: A list of permissions will appear, click on the “Agree” tab.
Step 8: Now, you’ll have to options, either to use this for technical support or to use it to access your computer, for the sake of this tutorial we’re going to choose access your own computer, it’s worth noting that the Google account you’re going to use here has to be the same account you’re going to use with your Android phone.
Step 9: A new window will pop-up, select the “Enable remote connection” option.
Step 10: A new window will pop-up. Now, you’ve to create a PIN number and enter it.
Step 11: Now, your computer will appear on a list, to access it just click on that tab.
Step 12: Now, open your Android device and open the Play store and search for the “Chrome Remote desktop”, and install it.
Step 13: After installing it, an icon will appear in your App drawer, just tap on it.
Step 14: A new window will appear with the computer you’ve installed the chrome extension on, just tap on it.
Step 15: You’ll then be prompted to enter the PIN number you’ve created in step 10.
Congratulations, now you’ve accessed your computer using your Android device.
