The internet is gaining importance every day, and it’s becoming a utility than a luxurious feature more and more. People worldwide rely on the internet for communications (Email, Skype, Hangout, Facebook, etc.), making business (e.g. online shopping, promoting business through Ads), and education (e.g. take online courses on outlets like Lynda.com, Khan Academy, etc.), and even pass their leisure time (e.g. the different streaming services (YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, etc.).
The major use of the internet is communication; many businesses rely on emails instead of regular mail for communication as it’s faster and more reliable. One of the other types of communications is video and audio communications; many worldwide rely on this type of communications to conduct business meetings for parties at different parts of the world, many expats rely on it to communicate with their families at their home countries.
One of the most widely used and popular free audio and video communication methods is Skype. Skype is owned by Microsoft now and it’s one of the most reliable communications software on the market now a day, its audio and video quality is very reasonable and consistent. This post is a step by step tutorial on how to add Skype to your browser directly, thus you can conduct your audio and video communications through your browser directly. For the sake of the demonstration Windows will be the operating system and Google Chrome is the web browser.
Step 1: Open your web browser and go to outlook.com and enter your credentials, if you don’t have an account, sign up for an account after all it’s free. It’s worth noting you can sign to outlook using either your email on outlook.com, Hotmail.com or windowslive.com.
Step 2: At the top of the screen you shall find a communication like tab, click on it. After clicking on it a small side menu will appear and you’ll have to wait to sign in.
Step 3: After you sign in, you shall find three options to choose from; Skype contacts, Facebook contacts and Google contacts. Just click on the Skype contacts option.
Step 4: After click on the Skype contacts a new window will pop-up, just wait for a couple of seconds and you’ll see a window like the one in the below screenshot, just click on the “Get Started” tab.
Step 5: You’ll be directed to a new window, click on “I agree and continue”.
Step 6: The add-on will start to download, just wait till the download is complete and install the downloaded file.
Step 7: After the installation is complete, you’ll be prompted by a window asking you if you have a sky account click on it and if you don’t then sign up for one it’s free.
Step 8: After you sign-in with your credentials you’ll be prompted by the window below confirming that you can start using Skype from your browser.
Now, you can enjoy your audio and video conversations from the comfort of your browser.
