This tutorial demonstrates how you can create text logos or banners with shapes in it using Photoshop. Instead of having boring text only logos and banners, after this tutorial you can insert relevant (or irrelevant if you wish) shapes into your logo. In this tutorial, we will be creating an example logo for a pet grooming business.
Step 1: First we will need to create a background and the text by using type tool.
Step 2: Make sure your spelling is correct and you have the desired font type, size, spacing and other adjustment you want for your text. Because on the next step once we convert our text to shape, we can no longer adjust the settings.
To convert your text to shape, right click on the text layer and click on Convert to shape or go to layer → type → convert to shape.
Step 3: Make sure the text is converted to a shape then select the layer. Then go to your tool panels and click on the direct selection tool.
Step 4: Now click and drag the pointer on one of the text shape. Square points will appear around the shape. In this example we will select the shape O.
Step 5: The one with the square points are the only editable areas on the shape. You can either extends it points or add more points. In this tutorial we will delete the circle inside the letter “o” by pressing backspace or delete. You will then get a roundish black O.
Step 6: Now we need to select some custom shapes. In order to do that, select the custom shape tool in our tool panels then click on the shape layers in the option bar.
Step 7: Click on the shape presets and the small wheel on the top right corner of the panel. Click on animals and new animal presets for your custom shape will appear.
Step 8: Select the desired animal custom shape preset and drag it over the deleted section of the letter “O” and also on the other letters. Make sure you either select your fill color or subtract front shape.
Basically that is it. You can play around with it and change colors, add patterns, put drop shadows and many more. The possibilities are endless. We hope you enjoyed reading this tutorial and we would love to hear from you, do leave us your comments.
