Imagine you have downloaded Windows 10 technical preview and you’re enjoying it. It’s stable and you’ve downloaded all of your favourite applications and a new update comes and it’s deployed automatically and everything is turned upside down. The new update has a conflict with a software or a driver on your computer and it crashes, restarts or doesn’t start all together. Your quiet life is turned to hell and you’ll need to install a fresh copy of Windows and thus all of the drivers and software. What a pain in the ass right? If you’re not a risk taker then this article is for you.
This article will present a step by step guide on how to stop Windows 10 from automatically updating.
Step 1: Type gpedit.msc in the search bar / Cortana and hit “Enter”.
Step 2: Navigate to; Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → expand Windows Components.
Step 3: On the right hand side of the menu double click on the Windows Update icon.
Step 4: You’ll be directed to a new window, select the “Configure Automatic Updates policy” option.
Step 5: A new window will popup, select the radio button beside the disabled option and then hit the Apply tab at the bottom of the window.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully disabled automatic update and now you control the interval of updates and when to deploy it.
