Do you’ve a shared computer either at work or at home and you’re the guru and the others using the same computer are masters at nothing but messing around with it and letting you handle the consequences as you’re the guru, well I know how it feels, we’ve all been in that same position. well sometimes those family members or college messes with things that you can fix but in many time they just screw up everything, either messing with the register, CMD or even the control panels. We’ve solved the first two points in previous articles and this post will target that last point.
This post will present a step by step guide on how to remove an icon from control panel, well if you’re wondering how can this protect the computer from your pesky friends or family members, well the answer is simple, if they can’t find it they can’t mess with it!
Step 1: Type gpedit.msc in the search bar / Cortana and hit “Enter”.
Step 2: Navigate to; User Configuration → Administrative Templates→ Control Panel branch.
Step 3: On the left hand side menu double click on “Hide Specified Control Panel Items policy”.
Step 4: A new window will pop up, click on the radio button beside “enabled” in the options section click on the show tab.
Step 5: Another window will pop up in which you should type the icon you want to hide and hit enter.
Voila, you can follow the same steps to hide any icon in the control panel which you don’t want anyone to have access to it.
