Microsoft is a company that some love and others hate, but all agree that they’re a market leader in the field of technology they’ve succeeded in fulfilling their founders vision which is a PC on every desk. But the days of desktop PCs are off and we’re in a new era of technology where mobile is becoming dominant while PCs are shying away from the scene.
In this new mobile world Microsoft is moving from the position of the market leader to the position of the underdog believe it or not Microsoft is an underdog under their new leadership (CEO: Satya Nadella). Windows 10 is one of the pillars of the new Microsoft, Windows 10 will be the platform on which Microsoft will build on projects and products like the Hololens and Xbox. This new Windows release comes with a slew of features and one of the major new additions in Windows 10 is the introduction of a new web browser Project Spartan or Microsoft Edge, this post will inform you with what you should know about that new browser.
Microsoft Edge is based on a forked trident rendering engine, the trident engine is the rendering engine used by Internet Explorer. In Microsoft Edge browser Microsoft has dropped support to legacy code and started supporting modern web standards and will even support extensions, yes just like Google Chrome.
As seen in the screenshot below there is a facelift for the interface when compared to Internet Explorer.
- The plus button allows you to add more tabs.
- The address bar.
- Adding page to favorites.
- This one is new, it allows you to edit a webpage (add notes, etc.) and then share them.
- The hamburger menu gives you access to additional settings.
- Also one of the added features, it allows you to access reading mode, which removes all of the clutter from the web page and lets you just access the pure form of your content.
Cortana is deeply integrated in Microsoft Edge, that will only increase in the coming days, but in its current state you can highlight a term / or a word that you want to know more about and then right click it and you shall find a menu that allows you to ask Cortana as seen in the screenshot below.
Cortana utilizes the power of Bing to give you relative information, in future releases Cortana will be more capable and will be even more integrated to Microsoft Edge.
