Let’s face it, 2014 was pretty dope. Apple and Samsung had years for the books, releasing major instalments for the smartphone market. Apple also made a huge push in promoting itself, through the acquisition of Beats by Dr. Dre, Apple Pay, a whole new programming language, updates and price cuts for the Mac line, a 5K iMac, and more. As one updating with all things Apple, I think it is safe to say that 2014 has been the best year for the Cupertino-based tech giant. But the thing about records is that they are only there to be broken, leavinig all of us wondering what 2015 could possibly have in store for us.
In this article, I will go over a few things to expect in 2015, and while many of them do have to do with Apple, there are also some surprising moves being made by competitors.
There are certainly some products and some companies that are already making waves due to promises for 2015. Notably, Samsung is in the news pretty frequently (albeit, for a variety of reasons). Many are already calling the Galaxy S6 incredible, although these claims are based off of rumors. If some of these rumors turn out to be true, however, it could be something amazing. With Android 5.0 being a great release, that alone could attract more users to Samsung. In addition, there are rumors of 4GB of RAM, even better camera specs, and a faster processor.
Samsung is also making promises on releases a lot of new watches in 2015, asserting their dominance in the smart watch category. This is important though, as there is another company whose name rhymes with “Raggle” that is also releasing a smart watch.
The Apple Watch is supposed to release in early 2015, and already has fans on edge. The watch has benefits that other smart watches do not offer, simply due to the fact that it is an Apple product. The thing that makes the product so appealing, and why I am a longtime fan of Apple is that they produce their own software, hardware, and promote the use of the “ecosystem”.
Essentially, the Apple product line plays well with the other products, so features like Continuity and Handoff become extremely valuable and possible, simply because you own multiple Apple products. The Apple Watch could be a valuable member in the ecosystem, as it is paired with smartphones and already has the capability of connecting to the HealthKit or HomeKit packages installed on iOS, which is a great advantage over the other smart watches that simply tack how many steps are taken throughout the day.
Apple is doing more than just the watch, however, consumers can wholly expect to see the effects of an IBM partnership emerge throughout 2015, bringing iOS to more companies than ever before. In addition, and more notably, you will definitely see something major happen with Apple & Beats By Dre. So far, the most interaction we have seen between the two is the presence of a Beats Audio app on Apple TV and the introduction of Beats headphones in Apple stores. Certainly, this is not the extent to which Apple plans to go with Beats, and that should be evident through what happens in the next few months.
There are also rumors of Apple expanding the iPad line, and rightly so. Unfortunately, Apple has seen negative and downward trends with the iPad line over the last three quarters, and may end up expanding the line in order to recover. Rumors have it that Apple may be working on a larger iPad, called the iPad Pro, to appeal to a newer audience. This could be great for those who need access to USB ports, HDMI, or simply a more powerful and capable tablet. Consumers may also see a Retina Macbook Air, an attempt at adding these hallmark features to their already worthy products.
As you can see, there are certainly many products you could be excited about in 2015. What is most appealing to me, however, is unable to be named explicitly. Every year is an opportunity
